1. Who runs the website

Sponsorlist.co.uk is published by Amsky Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. Our purpose is to turn a difficult-to-navigate government register into a practical research tool for jobseekers, employers, researchers and members of the public.

Editorial guides are researched and reviewed by the Sponsorlist editorial team. We identify the publication or review date on important guides and link to primary government sources so readers can verify material claims. We do not accept payment to place an organisation on the sponsor register or to change its official licence status.

2. Primary data source

Our core source is the Register of Licensed Sponsors: Workers published by the UK Home Office on GOV.UK. The register identifies organisations licensed to sponsor workers and commonly includes the organisation name, town or city, county, licence type, rating and sponsored route.

We use this public-sector information under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Crown copyright and source rights remain with their respective owners. Our database, interface, annotations, classification work and original editorial content are separate Sponsorlist work.

The government register is authoritative for licence presence at the time it was published. Sponsorlist is a secondary presentation layer. For an important legal, employment or financial decision, readers should confirm the latest entry directly on GOV.UK.

3. Update schedule

Our automated process checks for a new government source file daily. When a new or changed file is available, we import it, validate its structure, normalise fields and update the searchable directory. The date shown in the directory summary is the most recent successful source import, not a claim that every organisation’s own website or recruitment position was checked on that date.

There can be a delay between a real-world event, a Home Office decision, publication in the government file and appearance on Sponsorlist. Technical validation can also delay an import when the source format changes unexpectedly. We prioritise an accurate processed import over publishing a broken file quickly.

4. Processing steps

1. Source retrieval: we retrieve the current Worker sponsor register from its official GOV.UK publication.
2. Format validation: we check that expected columns are present and that the file can be parsed safely.
3. Normalisation: we trim spacing, standardise searchable text and preserve the source organisation and location fields.
4. Deduplication: we prevent repeated import rows from creating duplicate organisation records while retaining relevant route information.
5. Status comparison: we compare snapshots to identify additions, removals and changes visible in the published data.
6. Enrichment: where possible, we add carefully sourced website links and estimated industry labels. Enrichment is clearly separated from official source fields.
7. Quality checks: we review counts, import timestamps and unexpected changes before treating the snapshot as current.

6. How industry classification works

The Home Office register does not include an industry column. Our industry classifications are analytical estimates created from organisation names and, where available, public business descriptions. Keyword and pattern rules can identify strong signals for categories such as software development, healthcare, education, construction or finance.

We deliberately retain an “Other / Not Specified” category when the evidence is weak. A diverse group, a generic company name or a recently changed business can be misclassified. Sector totals on Sponsorlist must not be described as official Home Office industry statistics, and they do not prove that an organisation is currently hiring.

7. Important limitations

• A licence is not a vacancy. A listed organisation may not be recruiting or may sponsor only selected roles.
• A licence is not a visa guarantee. The job, salary, occupation code and applicant must independently satisfy the Immigration Rules.
• Register data is point-in-time. An organisation’s status can change after our last import.
• Names can be impersonated. Fraudsters use genuine sponsor details. Verify every offer through the employer’s official contact channel.
• Enrichment can be wrong. External links and industry labels are convenience features, not government data.
• No professional advice. Our tools and articles provide general information and are not legal, immigration, recruitment or financial advice.

8. Editorial standards

For visa-rule, salary and fee claims, we prefer primary sources such as GOV.UK guidance and the Immigration Rules. We record review dates, distinguish rules from practical commentary and update high-impact guides when official requirements change. We avoid claiming that a company is “hiring” unless there is separate current vacancy evidence.

Advertising does not determine our database inclusion, classification or editorial conclusions. Google AdSense or another advertising provider may select and display adverts, but advertisers do not receive the right to edit our research or the official source data.

9. Correction requests

If an official field appears wrong, first check the latest GOV.UK register because Sponsorlist cannot change the Home Office’s source record. If our page differs from the latest source or an enrichment link points to the wrong organisation, contact us with:

• the organisation’s exact name as shown on Sponsorlist;
• the Sponsorlist page URL;
• the field you believe is incorrect;
• a primary source or official company page supporting the correction; and
• your contact email so we can ask a clarifying question if necessary.

We review correction requests but may retain the government source value where it accurately reflects the published register. We will not alter a licence rating based only on a private statement.

10. Independence and contact

Sponsorlist is independent of the UK Government. References to GOV.UK, the Home Office and UK Visas and Immigration identify our sources and do not imply endorsement. Amsky Labs Ltd is responsible for the operation of this website and its original content.
